Jackets Trade Shelley To Sharks

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired a sixth round pick in the 2009 National Hockey League Entry Draft from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for left wing Jody Shelley, club General Manager Scott Howson announced tonight. Shelley has appeared in 31 of Columbus? 52 games this season and collected 44 penalty minutes. Signed by the Blue Jackets as a free agent on Jan. 31, 2001, he has registered 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points with 1,025 penalty minutes in 380 games during his NHL career. Shelley, who will turn 32 on February 7, is the franchise?s all-time leader in penalty minutes and stands tied with Rostislav Klesla for second in games played behind David Vyborny (519).

Columbus Acquires Rycroft From Avs

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired right wing Mark Rycroft from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for defenseman Darcy Campbell and center Philippe Dupuis, Blue Jackets' General Manager Scott Howson announced today. Rycroft was then assigned to the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus?s American Hockey League affiliate. Rycroft, 29, has tallied one goal and six assists for seven points with 17 penalty minutes and is even in 30 games with the AHL?s Lake Erie Monsters this season. He has registered 45-69-114 and 188 penalty minutes in 212 career AHL games with Worcester and Lake Erie. He has appeared in 226 career NHL games and has tallied 21-25-46 with 113 penalty minutes, including 6-6-12 with 31 penalty minutes and a +3 plus/minus rating in 66 games with Colorado last season.

Blackhawks Extend Sharp, Acquire Canes' Adams

The Chicago Blackhawks signed center Patrick Sharp to a four-year contract extension and acquired right winger Craig Adams from the Carolina Hurricanes for future considerations Thursday. Sharp, who broke into the NHL with Philadelphia in 2002-03, already has career highs with 22 goals and 36 points in his third season with the Blackhawks. He leads the NHL with seven shorthanded goals -- three shy of the team record -- and nine shorthanded points. "I love the city of Chicago and the Chicago fans and I want to be here for a long time," Sharp said in a statement. "I feel that our team has improved and continues to get better. Team success is a product of individual success and I will do everything I can to help bring a championship to the city of Chicago." Sharp's extension was part of a busy day for the Blackhawks. Adams, who had been with the Hurricanes since 2000, had two goals and three assists this season.

Tampa Bay Acquires Lessard From Stars

The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired right wing Junior Lessard from the Dallas Stars in exchange for defenseman Dan Jancevski, Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster announced. Lessard has been assigned to the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League. Lessard, 6-feet and 200 pounds, has played in 36 games with the AHL?s Iowa Stars this season. He ranks fourth on the Stars in goals with 10 and points with 21 with six of his goals coming on the power play to lead the team. Lessard is a veteran of 238 AHL games with Iowa and the Houston Aeros. During his career he has recorded 74 goals and 153 points. He has also played in 24 Calder Cup Playoff games with eight goals and 17 points. The 27-year-old led Iowa in goals (27), points (52), power play goals (12) and was tied for third in assists (25) last season. He was also selected to the Canadian AHL All-Star Team during the 2005-06 season and scored the game-winning goal with an assist. He has played in eight career NHL games, all with Dallas, from 2005-08. He has played in two games with Dallas this season and recorded two penalty minutes. The St. Joseph de Beauce, Quebec native won the Hobey Baker Award as the nation?s top collegiate player in 2004 after scoring 32 goals and recording 63 points in 45 games with the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He also led the nation in goals and points that year. In 160 games with the Bulldogs he scored 74 goals and recorded 142 points. Lessard signed with Dallas as an undrafted free agent on April 15, 2004.

Panthers Acquire Johansson From Blackhawks

The Panthers acquired defenceman Magnus Johansson from the Blackhawks on Thursday for a seventh-round draft pick in 2009. Johansson, 34, appeared in 18 games for the Blackhawks this season and picked up four assists. He was signed as a free agent over the summer.

Ducks Acquire Bootland From Islanders For Keith

The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired right wing Darryl Bootland from the New York Islanders in exchange for right wing Matt Keith. Bootland was subsequently assigned to the Portland Pirates, Anaheim?s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). Bootland, 26 (11/2/81), appeared in four games with the Islanders this season, scoring 0-1=1 point with two penalty minutes (PIM). He also played in 28 games for Bridgeport (New York?s AHL affiliate), collecting 2-8=10 points with 93 PIM. A native of Toronto, ON, Bootland was scoreless with nine PIM in six games with the Detroit Red Wings last season. He spent the rest of the 2006-07 campaign with Grand Rapids (Detroit?s AHL affiliate), scoring 18-13=31 points with 222 PIM. Originally selected by Colorado in the eighth round (252nd overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Bootland has played three NHL seasons with Detroit (2003-04, 2006-07) and the New York Islanders (2007-08). In 28 career NHL games, he has recorded 1-1=2 points with 83 PIM. Keith, 24 (4/11/83), had 5-5=10 points with 13 PIM in 34 games with Portland this season. Acquired from Chicago with Sebastien Caron and Chris Durno in exchange for Pierre Parenteau and Bruno St. Jacques on Dec. 28, 2006, Keith has played in 24 career NHL games (all with Chicago), scoring 2-3=5 points with 14 PIM.

Bruins Acquire Hnidy From Ducks For Bochenski

The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired right wing Brandon Bochenski from the Boston Bruins in exchange for defenseman Shane Hnidy and Anaheim?s sixth round pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. In addition, the Ducks relinquished their option to exchange fourth round picks with the Bruins in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft (as part of the Stanislav Chistov deal, Nov. 13, 2006). Bochenski, 25 (4/4/82), appeared in 20 games for the Bruins this season, collecting 0-6=6 points with a +2 rating and six penalty minutes (PIM). He also played in two games for Providence (Boston?s American Hockey League affiliate), scoring 1-0=1 point with a +1 rating. Originally selected by Ottawa in the seventh round (223rd overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Bochenski has scored 21-26=47 points with 44 PIM in 101 career NHL games between Ottawa (2005-06), Chicago (2006-07) and Boston (2007).
